BMTC introduces new 'flat' fare system to avoid contact during bus travel

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 25 : Giving in to public demand, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Monday announced that it has introduced a new "flat fare" system to minimize contact in buses during travel.
The flat fare system, which will come into effect from Tuesday, will replace the existing one, where passengers buy daily or weekly passes for travel.
According to the BMTC, the new system is envisaged to minimize repeated transaction with passengers while giving and taking change.
"In view of the public demand, the proposal was sent to the government for the introduction of a flat fare system and the same was approved and preparedness is made for implementing with effect from May 26, 2020," BMTC said in a statement.
It said that passengers will compulsorily have to wear masks during travel and not cause a crowd.
It said that the BMTC has made various preparedness to operate public transport buses with minimized contact through the introduction of a pass system for the travellers.
