WB: TMC wins Dhupguri assembly bypoll, CM Mamata congratulates people for reposing faith

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) [India], September 8 : Trinamool Congress party on Friday registered victory in bypolls from Dhupguri assembly seat in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. 
According to the Election Commission of India, TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy won the seat by over 4,000 votes in latest trends.The winning TMC candidate got 96,961 votes. BJP's candidate Tapasi Roy came second with 92,648 votes. Iswar Chandra Roy from Communist Party of India (Marxist) garnered 13,666 votes and came third.
Congratulating the people of Dhupguri, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and said," I thank the people of Dhupguri for reposing faith in us and voting decisively in our favour in the critical by-election to the Assembly constituency. People in North Bengal have been with us, and trust our strategy of growth, inclusiveness and empowerment. Bengal has shown its mandate, and soon INDIA too will show its preference. Jai Bangla! Jai INDIA!"
The TMC win in Dhupguri holds significance as it wrestled the seat back from BJP.
The seat fell vacant after Bishnu Pada Ray who was the previous MLA from BJP died in July this year thereby necessitating the bye-elections.
The constituency is largely agricultural with many tea gardens, having a considerable population of Rajbanshi and Matua caste groups among its 2.6 lakh voters across 260 booths.
In the panchayat elections held in July this year, TMC won the majority in Dhupguri gram panchayat.
