Kashmiri artist Maqbool Ahmad Dar makes carpet with National Flag design

Bandipora (J&K), July 11 (ANI): Maqbool Ahmad Dar is the first artisan of the valley who is preparing the first carpet with a National Flag design aimed to uplift his art in the valley. He hails from Ashtangoo village of Bandipora district. He belongs to a poor family. He left his school in seventh class due to financial crisis. He decided to become a carpet artisan and his maternal uncle helped him to learn the basics of carpet weaving. Twenty-five years ago, Maqbool was weaving carpets to earn their livelihood and he was very much satisfied with his work. As COVID-19 hits badly in Kashmir, it affected the Maqbool’s business also. He got an idea to prepare a unique and different carpet with National Flag design aimed to uplift the business. He made a unique carpet with proper tricolour design with the help of Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT). Kashmiri art, especially carpet weaving is famous across the globe and has a tremendous market at national and international level.
