New Delhi [India], January 10 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with other party leaders, on Saturday reached Raj Ghat, New Delhi, to offer prayers and protest against the BJP over the alleged circulation of a doctored video of Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi.
AAP MLA Jarnail Singh accused the BJP of conspiring to divert attention from key issues concerning the national capital.
"The BJP government has resorted to a very cheap conspiracy to sideline the real issues of Delhi in this assembly session. The opposition had to ask the government so many questions pertaining to the issues of the people of Delhi, but a conspiracy by a BJP MLA, in which he doctored a video of LoP Atishi, is an example of their corrupt thoughts," Singh said.
Meanwhile, AAP workers staged a protest and gheraoed the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in Lambi, Sri Muktsar Sahib district, opposing his alleged role in posting a doctored video of Atishi that purportedly disrespected Sikh Gurus.
In a related development, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday issued notices to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), the Jalandhar Police Commissioner, and the Special DGP Cyber Cell, giving them 48 hours to respond to an FIR filed over an alleged doctored video clip of Assembly proceedings.
Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Assembly premises, Gupta said, "The DGP Punjab, Police Commissioner Jalandhar, and Special DGP Cyber Cell, Punjab, have been issued notices and given 48 hours to submit their written explanations along with all relevant documents in response."
According to a release, the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat issued a formal notice regarding the FIR registered in Jalandhar concerning the alleged doctored video clip. The notice stated that the House is already seized of the matter and that the video has been referred for forensic examination and to the Committee of Privileges.
The notice also conveyed the Speaker's concern about the Punjab Police's involvement in a matter considered to fall within the House's privileged domain and sought a detailed explanation, along with relevant documents, from the relevant authorities.
Earlier, an FIR was registered by the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate regarding the uploading and circulation of an edited and doctored video allegedly involving Atishi, MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, police said on Thursday.
In a press release, the Jalandhar Police said the FIR was registered on a complaint filed by Iqbal Singh after several social media posts circulated a short video clip purportedly showing Atishi making derogatory and blasphemous remarks against Gurus.
"Several social media posts containing a short video clip allegedly showing Atishi, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, making allegedly derogatory and blasphemous remarks against Gurus with highly inflammatory captions have been uploaded on social media platforms," the release stated.
According to a forensic report dated January 9, 2026, the word "Guru" was not uttered by Atishi in the audio clips circulating on social media.
"Vide Forensic Report dated 09-01-2026, it has emerged that the word 'Guru' has not been uttered by Atishi in her audio as contained in the video clips being circulated on social media. Furthermore, there has been deliberate doctoring of the video to attribute words in the captions that were never spoken by Atishi," the release clarified.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, police said.
