"Assam's Miya muslim population will increase to 38% after census": says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Dibrugarh (Assam) [India], October 10: Assam Chief Minister on Friday said that the state has gone through a demographic change and that the upcoming census data will reveal that the muslim population has increased to 38 per cent, a jump from the approximately 34 per cent recorded in 2011.
"When the census in Assam is conducted and when the census report is published, the Miya Muslim population in Assam will be increased to 38 per cent, write my words. If projection has been made, their (Muslim) population will be 38 percent of the total population of Assam and they will become the biggest community of Assam", he said to mediapersons in Dibrugarh, after attending the "Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan" (MMUA) program.
Reaffirming his commitment to protecting the indigenous population in the state, he mentioned that the state government is set to bring in two important bills which will protect Jati, Maati, Bheti (caste, land, and foundation) of the people.
"We will bring two important bills in the upcoming Assam assembly session to solve this type of problems. We will bring these two important bills to protect Jati, Maati, Bheti. If we had tried in last 30 years to do the same what we did in last 5 years, we might not have to suffer in crisis today", he mentioned.
"Now a fight has begun and we must lead it towards our desired goal. We will have to continue the fight for the next 10 years," he added.
According to the 2011 census report, Muslim population in Assam was 34.22 percent of the state's total population.
At the event, CM Sarma met with the women entrepreneurs in Dibrugarh, and gave around Rs 10,000 to over 14,000 women through the MMUA seed fund.
CM Sarma posted on X, "Meet our women entrepreneurs from Dibrugarh- motivated and passionate about their business ideas. Today we empowered over 14,000 of them to grow their ideas into successful ventures through the MMUA seed fund of ₹10,000 and this is just the beginning; more support will follow".
