Bihar SIR: 66.16 % enumeration forms collected; 15 more days left

New Delhi [India], July 10 : Active participation of Bihar electors in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and tireless efforts of 77,895 BLOs along with the 20,603 newly appointed BLOs and other election officials, over 4 lakh volunteers who are supporting the elderly, PwD, sick and vulnerable populations along with the 1.56-lakh proactive force of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) who all recognised political parties have appointed, has resulted in the collection of 66.16% Enumeration Forms, a press release from Election Commission of India said.
The electors still have 15 more days left to submit the form. By 6.00 PM on July 10, 5,22,44,956 Enumeration Forms, which is 66.16% of the total of 7,89,69,844 (nearly 7.90 crore) existing electors in Bihar, have been collected in the last 16 days, since the issue of SIR instructions on June 24, 2025.
Maintaining the same momentum on the field, the exercise of collecting the Enumeration Forms could be completed well before the stipulated date i.e. July 25, 2025.
During this period of past 16 days since the beginning of the SIR exercise, 7.90 crore forms were printed and nearly 98% forms (7.71 crore) have already been distributed to the electors whose name were in the electoral roll as on June 24 i.e. the date of SIR order.
Earlier today, The Supreme Court allowed the Election Commission to continue with its exercise of conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.
A bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi did not stay the SIR process but asked the ECI to consider allowing Aadhaar, ration cards, and electoral photo identity cards as admissible documents to prove voter identity during the SIR of electoral rolls being undertaken in Bihar.
"We are of the prima facie opinion that in the interest of justice, the Election Commission will also include documents like Aadhaar, Ration Card, Voter ID card, etc.. It is for the ECI to decide whether it wants to accept the documents or not, and if it does not, then provide reasons for its decision, which shall be sufficient to satisfy the petitioners. Meanwhile, petitioners are not pressing for an interim stay," the bench stated in its order.
