BRS begins 1 lakh signature campaign for Secunderabad Cantonment Board merger

Jan 29, 2026

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 29 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday launched a one-lakh signature campaign seeking the merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board with the civic corporation, with the first signature given by BRS Working President KT Rama Rao.

The party said attempts are being made to turn the issue of merging the Secunderabad Cantonment Board into a political drama and push the public into confusion.
"Those who undertook protests on the merger have failed to clearly explain to the people why the protest was started in the first place and why it was abruptly withdrawn. The merger issue is a public issue. When such an issue is taken up, it must be pursued in a united manner by bringing everyone together, beyond party lines. However, conducting protests without a clear roadmap and creating confusion among the public in the name of a protest is not appropriate," as per the press note.
The party said that contradictory statements across various platforms, including from the BJP, have increased public confusion. In this context, the BRS is stepping forward to clearly reflect the opinion of the Cantonment residents.
In support of the Cantonment Board merger, BRS launched a programme to collect one lakh signatures. The first signature for this movement has been taken from BRS Working President KTR.
An appeal was made to support the Cantonment merger, irrespective of political parties or organisations, to extend their support to this 1 lakh signature movement.
After completing the collection of one lakh signatures, the BRS will send copies of these representations to Etela Rajender, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Rahul Gandhi, to demonstrate the level of public support for merging the Cantonment Board into the Corporation.
