Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand) [India], April 19 : Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Pauri Garhwal constituency, Anil Baluni, said on Friday that the Congress is not going to get even 30 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
Polling on all five seats in Uttarakhand is underway in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
"Congress is not going to get even 30 seats in this election, and it is going to drop to its lowest level in this election," Anil Baluni said.
Further, Baluni appealed that today is the biggest festival of the world's largest democracy. We request that the voters come out in large numbers and vote, especially the youth.
Anil Baluni offered prayers at Kandoliya Devta temple before casting his vote. Congress has fielded its former chief of the Pradesh Congress Committee Ganesh Godiyal from this seat.
The BJP has been winning the seat for the last two consecutive parliamentary elections, in 2014 and 2019.
The Garhwal constituency is currently being held by the senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.
Meanwhile, Dehradun District Magistrate Sonika cast her vote at GRD Polytechnic Rajpur Road.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam was the first to cast his vote at Flower Dale School located in Mussoorie Assembly Constituency of Dehradun.
While the BJP would be aiming to repeat its 2019 performance and sweep the state, the Congress would look to improve its tally and make a dent into the BJP's stronghold.
Notably, the BJP is also in power in the state assembly in Uttarakhand since 2017.
The first phase elections to elect the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha started on Friday.
The results will be announced on June 4.
