Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 1 : Congress candidate from Kolkata, North Pradip Bhattacharya, hit out at TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks that the Congress was indirectly supporting the BJP and said that Congress and Left are fighting 'tooth and nail' against the BJP.
Pradip Bhattacharya said, "What TMC supremo has said is false and malicious. Congress and Left are fighting 'tooth and nail' against the BJP. Even today, her associate, Derek O'Brien, who attended the Delhi meeting (INDIA alliance rally) said they are with this alliance."
He further said that maybe CM Mamata Banerjee was unaware of what her party MP Derek was saying or was intentionally saying two different versions in different places.
"This means what she is saying, Derek doesn't know about it or maybe she is unaware of what Derek is saying, or intentionally they're saying two different versions in different places, it means their political ideology is flexible and political ideology is wrong and they are not serious to fight out the polls," he alleged.
He said that in his constituency, both opponents were earlier in Congress.
"I can say clearly that neither the TMC candidate in my constituency or in different constituencies nor the BJP candidate who is contesting in my constituency or in different constituencies, most of them are either from the Congress or the TMC. What is there identity? In my constituency, both the opponents were earlier in Congress, and now they are in the TMC and the BJP," he added.
When Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien was giving assurances on his party's behalf to the INDIA bloc members in Delhi's historical Ramlila Maidan, at the same time West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee struck a different tone in Nadia, stating that her party is fighting against the Congress and accusing the Congress as well as CPI(M) of indirectly supporting the BJP.
Despite O'Brien's affirmation that "TMC is very much, was, is and will be part of the INDIA alliance," Banerjee, back at home, emphasised that "voting for Congress means voting for the BJP," implying a strategic divergence from Congress.
She further claimed that the TMC is contesting against the alliance of CPM-BJP-Congress, denouncing any formal coalition formation.
"Congress is contesting the elections in alliance with the Left here. Voting for them means voting for BJP," West Bengal Chief Minister said.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee further mentioned that her party is fighting against the alliance of the CPM-BJP-Congress.
