Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 17 : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid glowing tributes to late Kannada acting stalwart Dwarakish, calling him a towering performer who raised the prestige and profile of the local film industry.
CM Siddaramaiah paid his last respects to the mortal remains of Dwarkish, the renowned actor-producer, at Ravindra Kalakshetra on Wednesday.
Dwarakish (81) passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at his residence in Electronic City.
"He contributed significantly to the Kannada film industry as an actor, director and producer. His service to taking our cinema to a global audience will never be forgotten. He gave many memorable performances not only as a comedian but also as a lead actor," the CM said.
"His on-screen pairing with Dr. Raj Kumar was loved by one and all. He also acted in many films featuring (actors) Vishnuvardhan and Ambareesh. He suffered many ups and downs in life. However, he never gave up on acting or film production," the CM said.
"He endured many hardships and contributed to the development of Kannada film industry. Born in Hunsur, Mysuru, he had a lot of love for his hometown. I remember travelling with Dwarakish on a helicopter to Mysuru. We had an engaging discussion on politics, cinema and social issues," CM added.
"May his soul rest in peace. I pray to the Almighty to give his family strength to bear their loss," the CM added.
"Even in death, Dwarakish served humanity as he donated his eyes. It was a commendable gesture. His demise has left a huge void in the Kannada film industry. He is irreplaceable," he added.
"Dwarakish died on the same day as my wife. May their souls rest in peace," the CM added, pointing to a coincidence.
