Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 7 : Amid growing anticipation around the grand consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti, who was at the forefront of the Ram Temple movement, said credit ought to be given first and foremost to the many Kar Sevaks to laid down their lives during the Ram Janmabhoomi struggle.
Speaking to ANI on Sunday, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and saffron stalwart said the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was a struggle over '500 years' and no single person should get sole credit for its success.
"This movement lasted over five centuries. It was the only such movement in the country, which was carried forward over 500 years, and ended up being successful. No one should get sole credit for it. So, I feel that the credit first and foremost should be given to those who brought down the (Babri) mosque. No survey would have been possible had that structure had not been brought down. The survey took place and the Supreme Court accepted its findings," Bharti told ANI.
Recalling the efforts of late former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Ashok Singhal to rally the Kar Sevaks around the temple cause and the movement forward, the BJP leader added, "Next, in order, credit should also go to Ashok Singhal, who took the movement to the next level. It was under his leadership and in line with his vision that we plunged headlong into the Ram Jamnabhoomi Movement. Credit is also due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath for taking the movement to its logical end. However, as I said, the majority of the credit should be given to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause."
