New Delhi [India], May 10 : Congress leader Ragini Nayak on Friday strongly backed the Indian Army's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, saying the opposition stands in "solidarity" with the government and the armed forces in this fight against terror.
Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Ragini Nayak said, "The way innocents were killed in Pahalgam and the Indian army responded, opposition stands in solidarity with the army and Indian government as a responsible opposition along with each and every community in the country..."
Nayak further stressed the need for strong action against Pakistan. "Pakistan's illicit intentions have been towards Indian soil... Operation Sindoor targeted only terror bases and not civil regions. Such a stern action should be taken that Pakistan's soul trembles before repeating such a thing... This is why, CWC reiterated that we stand as a strong pillar behind the Indian army and government against Pakistan..."
The party's show of support comes after India's Operation Sindoor, which was carried out in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 Indian tourists were killed. The Indian Army launched precise strikes on terror infrastructure across the border earlier this week.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, "Solidarity with the armed forces. The whole nation is with them. We are saluting their services."
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also praised the armed forces and highlighted past military victories. "The army has always taught Pakistan a lesson, whether it is 1965, 1971 or 1999, Pakistan has always suffered humiliation. The country needs to trust the army's courage because it always gives a befitting reply to Pakistan."
She added, "The country stands in support of the army. We thank the army for the operation in which they destroyed the terrorist camps, and we want to give them this message that the country stands in support of the army."
Congress MP Rajeev Shukla echoed similar sentiments, saying, "Through this yatra, the Congress party wants to give the message that we are with the armed forces and we salute the valour of the armed forces. The Congress party supports every decision taken by the armed forces. Whatever decision the central government takes, we will support it."
The show of political unity comes amid continued tension along the western border. On Thursday night, Pakistan launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan. Indian defence officials confirmed that the attacks were mostly intercepted by advanced air defence systems, including the S-400, limiting damage.
As the situation remains tense, international voices have called for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation between the two countries.
