"Deeply moving experience": PM Modi visits Swahid Smarak Kshetra, pays tribute to Assam Movement martyrs

Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 21 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that visiting Swahid Smarak Kshetra at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati was a "deeply moving experience", recalling the sacrifice of people during the Assam Movement.
In a post on X after his visit to Swahid Smarak Kshetra, where he offered tributes to the martyrs, PM Modi said, "Paid homage at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra and offered tributes at the Swahid Pranam Jyoti. Walking through the Swahid Gallery was a deeply moving experience, recalling the courage and sacrifices of the Bir Swahids martyred during the Assam Movement."

Highlighting the significance of people's sacrifices, PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to work tirelessly for Assam's progress.
"The sacrifices made during the Assam movement are an integral part of Assam's identity and collective memory. We remain resolute in our commitment to working tirelessly for Assam's progress, prosperity and cultural pride," he said.
During his visit to Assam, PM Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan for the new brownfield Ammonia-Urea Fertiliser Project at Namrup within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup, Dibrugarh district.
The project, with an estimated investment of over Rs 10,600 crore, will meet fertiliser requirements of Assam and neighbouring states, reduce import dependence, generate substantial employment and catalyse regional economic development. It stands as a cornerstone of industrial revival and farmer welfare.
Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi said, "Today is a big day for Assam and the entire North-East. The dream that Namrup and Dibrugarh had been waiting for a long time is being fulfilled today. A new chapter of industrial progress is about to begin in this whole area... Before coming to Dibrugarh, a new terminal of the airport was inaugurated in Guwahati. Everyone is saying that Assam has caught on to a new pace of development. What you are experiencing right now is just the beginning."
On Saturday, PM inaugurated the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
The Prime Minister also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi at the entrance of the new terminal complex, paying tribute to the iconic leader and the first Chief Minister of Assam.
