Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 2 : Condemning the failure of the Centre in checking the increasing prices of commercial LPG cylinders, members of the Congress party held a protest in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on Monday.
Protesting Congress workers offered tribute to commercial LPG cylinders to symbolically register their protest against the government's inaction.
The protest comes a day after Public sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) hiked the price of 19 KG commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 209.
Addressing the media persons on the occasion, Congress leader Ragini Nayak targeted the central government and said, “Today, we have paid tribute to the commercial gas cylinder. On one hand, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan talks about giving cylinders to women (beneficiaries of Ladli Bahna Yojana) at a rate of Rs 450, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi made commercial cylinders costlier by Rs 209.”
The truth of Ujjwala Yojana and commercial gas cylinders is in front of everyone. These people (BJP) spread the illusion that commercial cylinders do not affect the lives of common people. It will not affect PM Modi and his friend Adani but it will affect the plate of a common man, she added.
“They (BJP) are adopting Mahatma Gandhi’s principles but reject his viewpoint. They increase the price by Rs 200 and then fool the public by reducing Rs 200,” she alleged.
According to the data of the Petroleum Ministry, a subsidy of around Rs 2 lakh crore was received during the UPA government. On the other hand, In the last 9 years, the subsidy has been reduced to only around Rs 36,000 crores, the congress leader added.
She further said, “Ujjwala Yojana has become a showpiece of the kitchen today. Only 15 percent of women have been able to get cylinders refilled under the Ujjwala scheme.”
While responding to Nayak’s remarks, State Secretary of Madhya Pradesh BJP, Rajneesh Agarwal said that the rate of commercial cylinders was decided according to the market rate.
“The state government is providing domestic gas cylinders to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana and Ladli Bahna Yojana at the rate of Rs 450. While the rate of commercial gas cylinders is decided according to the market rate. If they (Congress) do not understand the difference between domestic and commercial then it is their fault,” Agarwal said.
