Kochi (Kerala) [India], October 5 : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament, Mohammad Faizal has been disqualified from the Lok Sabha after the Kerala High Court rejected his plea in an attempt to murder case.
"In view of the order dated October 10 of the High Court of Kerala, Mohammed Faizal Padippura., Member of Lok Sabha representing the Lakshadweep Parliamentary Constituency of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction--January 11, 2023 in terms of provisions of Article 102 (1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act. 1951, subject to further judicial pronouncements," a Lok Sabha Bulletin said on Wednesday.
This is the second time for the NCP MP that his Lok Sabha membership has been disqualified. In January this year, over his conviction in a case along with four others for an attempt to murder, he was disqualified from the lower house of Parliament.
However, his disqualification was revoked in March after the Kerala High Court stayed his conviction in a criminal case.
Faizal was convicted of attacking his relative Mohammad Salih. The prosecution argued that Faizal led a group of people to attack and grievously injure Salih over an argument about constructing a shed. The victim had been flown to Kerala where he remained hospitalised for months.
