Jangaon (Telangana) [India], October 16 : Ahead of the Telangana assembly polls, former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah who recently resigned from his party joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Monday.
Lakshmaiah induction into the BRS took place in the presence of BRS party chief K Chandrashekar Rao during a public meeting in Jangaon.
Telangana Minister and BRS leader KT Rama Rao on Friday called on the former Congress leader at his residence in Hyderabad. Though Ponnala Lakshmaiah denied reports of him joining any other political party, KT Rama Rao said that the former Telangana chief would be offered a "suitable position" in the BRS.
"We invite Ponnala Lakshmaiah to BRS. We will give him a suitable position in the party. He will meet the CM tomorrow. He might join BRS in a public meeting to be held at Jangaon on October 16," Rama Rao said while speaking to reporters after meeting Ponnala Lakshmaiah in Hyderabad.
The senior Congress leader resigned from the party citing an "unjust environment". Soon after resigning from the Congress party, Lakshmaiah on Friday said that politics in the country is overtaking the development and welfare of rural people.
Telangana will go to polls on November 3 this year. The state will be seeing a three-pronged fight between the ruling BRS, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
