New Delhi [India], June 23 : CPI (M) General Secretary MA Baby on Monday stated that the Indian government's response to the Iran-Israel conflict was inadequate, further stating that the Prime Minister and the government should demand immediate cessation of attack and assault on Iran.
"The response that has come out of the Indian government is inadequate... In unequivocal terms, PM Modi and the government of India should condemn it, and they should demand the immediate cessation of attack and assault on Iran..." the CPI (M) Secretary told ANI.
He further stated that the allegations by the Israeli PM Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump that Iran was on the verge of weaponising nuclear power were not tenable.
"Israel first launched an attack, bombing Iran, and also requested that America join in the attack. The allegation of Israeli PM Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump is that Iran is either already weaponised nuclear power or is on the verge of weaponising nuclear power. We have the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency stating that they don't have any proof of Iran having developed nuclear weaponisation, the US intelligence submitted the same report," he further added.
"The US President does not believe in these reports, making it an attack on an independent country without any provocation," he further added.
Congress leader Pawan Khera also raised questions on India's silence over the Iran-Israel tensions and US' attack on Iran's nuclear facilities and stated that India's silence would make it "weak."
Pawan Khera further mentioned that it is very "surprising" that India has not upheld its role, which it has always played in Western Asia's disturbances.
The Congress leader stressed that Israel continued bombing different countries after killing innocent civilians in Gaza, but no one understands why India is silent over the issue.
"The surprising thing is that India is not seen to be living up to the role it has always played in disturbing West Asia. No one understands why India is silent. After Gaza, where so many innocent civilians were killed, Israel is continuously bombing, bombing different countries, and India has remained silent. America displayed its entire air power on Iran, and India remained silent. India's silence makes India weak", Pawan Khera told ANI.
Furthermore, he emphasised that India has always played a "peacekeeping and constructive role" in West Asia. Pawan Khera asked why India is abdicating its "moral responsibility" in West Asia, due to which people are also looking at India's answers.
The latter asserted that India should have stood by its "traditional" friends, and the government must have ensured that it talks with the right people at the right time and in the right tone.
"India has always had a peace keeping and constructive role in West Asia. Why is India abdicating its moral authority in this region? People are looking at answers...India should have exercised its moral authority, stood by its traditional friends and partners, and ensured that the government talks to the right people at the right time in the right tone", Pawan Khera said.
