Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 23 : The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) and a constable of Chanda Nagar Police Station, Cyberabad Commissionerate, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 from a complainant for showing official favour in a case investigation.
According to the ACB, accused officer Bandela Balraj, Sub-Inspector of Police, and constable B Raghavendra Kumar were caught red-handed by ACB officials of the Ranga Reddy Range while accepting the bribe amount.
The ACB said the SI had demanded and accepted Rs 75,000 from the complainant for investigation of the case in Chanda Nagar Police Station and to file a charge sheet.
As per officials, the bribe amount was recovered from the SI's office table drawer at his instance. It added that the SI had earlier received Rs 20,000 in cash, while the constable had allegedly received Rs 10,000 through UPI payments.
The ACB alleged that the accused cops had performed their duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.
The arrested officials will be produced before the Principal Special Judge for Special Police Establishment (SPE) & ACB cases at Hyderabad for judicial remand.
The case is under investigation, the ACB said.
Earlier on July 15, Telangana ACB registered a case of disproportionate assets against B Ravinder, the Chief Engineer of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), following raids that uncovered assets worth over Rs 9.24 crore, officials said.
The searches, conducted by the ACB's City Range 1 on July 14, targeted Ravinder's residence, office, and nine other locations belonging to his relatives, associates, and alleged benamidars.
According to the ACB, the registered value of the identified assets stands at Rs 9,24,02,276, though the actual market value is expected to be significantly higher. Ravinder has been booked under Section 13(1)(b) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), for allegedly acquiring wealth through corrupt practices.
The list of properties identified during the searches includes five open plots in Kondakal, Kistapur, and Pasamala (valued at Rs 38.89 lakh); four residential flats in Narsingi and Nanakramguda (valued at Rs 2.07 crore); and four acres of agricultural land in Kothur and Shamshabad.
