Asansol (West Bengal) [India], April 19 : Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who was renominated by the ruling TMC from the Asansol Lok Sabha seat, said on Friday that the NDA will be reduced to 150-175 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"TMC will sweep in this election and BJP will go through a massive rout. Those who are giving the slogan of '400 paar', may remember the result of 2004 this time," said Sinha.
Launching an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "PM has not used his energy in the right direction."
He further stated that today the country's debt has increased four times. "PM Modi has lost his credibility. He has become a publicity minister.
Speaking on the "scam" of electoral bonds, he said, "The matter must be investigated properly but no probe has been conducted yet."
Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not addressing major issues, he said, "Different aspects have been suppressed by them (BJP). They are not talking about employment, inflation and soaring petrol and diesel prices; Without any issues, our CM Mamata Banerjee has been repeatedly attacked. This time we will give a befitting reply to the BJP, a reply that was neither seen in the past nor will be seen in the future."
"We are famous for one thing and also infamous among some people whatever we say we do it and whatever we do we say that (Hum jo kahte hai wo karte hai, aur jo karte hai wahi karte hai)," added TMC MP.
Earlier on Thursday, expressing strong confidence, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP will be defeated in the upcoming general elections and Mamata Banerjee and her party will play a crucial role in the next government.
He said that the TMC manifesto that was released on Wednesday is not just for the people of West Bengal but for the nation.
Notably, polling in the 42 parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal will be held across all seven phases: April 19, April 26, May 4, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The counting of votes has been scheduled for June 4.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP marked a strong improvement, taking its tally from 2 in 2014 to 18 against the TMC's 22. The Congress's tally dropped to just 2 seats, while the Left scored a blank.Though the TMC is part of the INDIA bloc, it does not have a seat-sharing arrangement with the other parties in the alliance, like Congress and the Left parties in the state.
The BJP, on the other hand, is aiming to make further inroads in the state after rising to the rank of main Opposition party in the state in the Assembly elections in 2021.
