Dec 27, 2025
New Delhi [India], December 27 : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday distributed free gas connections to eligible women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana at a grand programme held at Thyagaraj Stadium in Delhi.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, a total of 5,100 eligible women were provided with LPG cylinders along with the complete Ujjwala kit. This initiative of the Delhi Government marks a significant step towards women's empowerment, health security and environmental protection.
The programme was attended by Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and several other distinguished dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is not limited to providing gas connections alone; rather, it is a powerful campaign that brings the light of dignity, health and cleanliness into the lives of every mother and sister.
She noted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme, launched in 2014, has benefited over 10 crore families across the country. In Delhi, approximately 2.6 lakh families have already benefited from the scheme. By providing Ujjwala connections to 5,100 women today, another important step has been taken towards making their lives safer, cleaner and more dignified.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the Ujjwala Yojana brings a sense of relief and self-respect to women. "The Delhi Government remains fully committed to women's empowerment and safeguarding their health. The government's objective is to ensure that every eligible woman receives the benefits of the Ujjwala Yojana, enabling a safer and healthier life," she added.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the distribution of Ujjwala connections is yielding dual benefits for the Delhi Government's pollution control mission. On one hand, women will get relief from illnesses caused by smoke from traditional stoves using firewood and coal, thereby ensuring better protection of their health. On the other hand, the use of clean fuel will lead to a significant reduction in indoor pollution, further strengthening the goal of making Delhi pollution-free.
Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that the Ujjwala Yojana has brought about a historic transformation in the lives of crores of women across the country. Initiated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme goes beyond providing LPG connections and is directly linked to women's safety, health and dignity.
He added that domestic pollution caused by the use of firewood, kerosene and biomass is not only severely harmful to health but also detrimental to the environment. By promoting clean fuel through the Ujjwala Yojana, kitchens are being made pollution-free, which is a concrete step towards the goal of a 'Pollution-Free Delhi'.
