Uttarakhand CM takes cognizance of sexual exploitation of visually impaired girl, orders action

Uttarakhand [India], October 16 : Taking cognizance of the case of sexual exploitation of a visually impaired girl in Goulapar, Haldwani, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions for an intensive inspection of residential educational institutions running in the state.
CM Dhami directed Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and all the District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police to take action.
Last Friday, the police arrested Shyam Dhanak, general secretary and director of the National Association for the Blind (NAB) Nawadkheda, Gaulapar, on charges of sexual exploitation of a visually impaired girl.
Also, CM Dhami has directed intensive inspections to be conducted in all other residential institutions running in the state so that such incidents are not repeated.
On Monday, the Additional Chief Secretary directed the District Magistrates to form a joint team with officials of the concerned department and police and run an awareness campaign in residential educational institutions.
"If any case of sexual exploitation or abuse of a child comes to notice, then strict legal action should be taken immediately. Also, under the awareness campaign, conduct intensive inspections in the institutions and ensure that the related reports are made available to the government within a month," said the Additional Chief Secretary.
