Wayanad (Kerala) [India], May 5 : Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Monday visited the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in her parliamentary constituency and expressed satisfaction with the facility, noting that it would greatly benefit the local population.
"We are all very happy about this. I am glad that it is open because it will be very convenient for them and I believe there is also a mobile system that goes to the more remote areas, which I think is a great idea. They are processing about 40 passports a day... I am sure the number will increase, but I am happy to see the centre," Vadra told reporters.
Earlier on Sunday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that the central government decided to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census after coming under pressure.
Speaking to media persons, Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad said that his brother Rahul raised this issue in Parliament and was ridiculed for it.
"The government has been pressured. My brother took up this cause last year. He has been saying it again and again; the entire BJP was against it. BJP ministers, the Prime Minister himself. When my brother spoke in Parliament, he was also ridiculed by them for speaking in favour of this," Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.
Priyanka Gandhi is on a visit to her constituency, Wayanad, where she visited the Wayanad Wildlife Division office and handed over an ambulance for the people.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 4,10,931 votes, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
The Wayanad seat was vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi, who previously represented Wayanad but shifted to Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh after being elected to the Lok Sabha from there during this year's general elections.
