East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh) [India], February 1 : The YSRCP party on Sunday condemned the alleged "murder attempt" of former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu during an alleged vandalism incident at his house by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists.
A large number of TDP activists gathered outside Ambati Rambabu's house on Saturday night. The group allegedly damaged his residence and office, vandalised vehicles parked on the premises, and set some of them on fire.
Denouncing the incident, YSRCP National Spokesperson Margani Bharat questioned the poor state of law and order in the state. He alleged that a TDP MLA claimed to have gone to attack Rambabu at his residence. Bharat further demanded that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah take action against the alleged brutality against the opposition leaders in the state.
"This exposes the failure of law and order in the state. It was a deliberate attempt in which thousands of TDP hooligans went and attacked the YSRCP leader's house. The high drama continued for nearly 5 hours, in which the police were merely the spectators. The mob went with a sitting MLA, and she revealed that they had gone to attack him. This demonstrates the government's arrogance. The government has failed to protect law and order. We condemned it. How about the common public's protection. Several leaders also went to meet the Superintendent of Police, but he refused to allow the former state Home Minister to meet Rambabu," Bharat said.
"We urge the Home Minister (Amit Shah) to take cognisance of this incident. Opposition leaders were brutally attacked. The government of India should intervene. This is a case of failure of police and intelligence," he demanded.
Additionally, Karthik Yellapragada, YSRCP Spokesperson, accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of inciting violence in the state, calling it "pure lawlessness of political revenge." He questioned the law and order in the state and urged the Central government to take cognisance of the matter.
"We strongly condemn the murder attempt on former minister and YSRP leader Ambati Rambabu. He was being arrested while his house was being burnt. All this is happening under the nose of the government. This is not a random act of violence; it is happening with the consent and direction of the government. The Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son Lokesh and his partner Kalyan are all involved. It's a pure lawlessness of political revenge. Naidu, Lokesh, Kalyan. Ever since the national institutions exposed the lies of Naidu and Kalyan, he has been desperate to silence anyone who questions him. Instead of taking accountability, he has unleashed his goons on YSR leaders. And the police stood by as mute spectators. Protecting the criminals instead of the victims, what kind of message is this? They have turned the state into a jungle raj. The citizens are now standing against the growing political terrorism in the state," he said.
"The central government must act immediately before the democracy is burned, just like Ambati's home today," he added.
Another YSRCP Spokesperson, Konda Rajeev Gandhi, also blamed the Chief Minister for the alleged attack. He also criticised the state of law and order, alleging that the police stood as mute spectators during the alleged vandalism of Ambati's residence. He urged the state Governor and the Government of India to take an action against the responsible officials.
He stated, "The YSRCP strongly condemns the murder attempt at former state minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu. The Chief Minister is directly responsible for this. I'd like to ask him whether murder attacks are his only answer to whoever questions your flaws? Is this the way you respond? They are collapsed and exposed by national institutions, but instead of accepting and apologising, the CM chose intimidation. The TDP goons and armed attackers attacked Ambati's residence. The police, who should protect him, stood like mute spectators. This is political terrorism. The law and order have completely collapsed under Naidu's rule. Whoever questions the government will be attacked; this is the state. Shows the dictatorship and authoritarian state threat to democracy. YSRCP demands state governor and action aagnst responsible officials. Violence cannot bury the truth."

Meanwhile, YSRCP MLA Ambati Rambabu has been arrested at his residence in Vikas Nagar, Guntur, a day earlier, after police surrounded the area, took him into custody, and escorted him in a police van, according to the Guntur West DSP.

The incident happened after the alleged abusive remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu attributed to Rambabu. TDP workers demanded that Ambati Rambabu tender an immediate public apology, warning that failure to do so would prompt them to urge the police to file a formal case against him for the alleged abuse.
