New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): The newly appointed Chairman of Airports Authority of India, Arvind Singh said that AAI will invest Rs. 25,000 crores in the next five years for building airport infrastructure, creating new facilities for passengers, new runways and upgradation of technology in the country. In an interview to ANI, Singh said there are plans to almost double the number of domestic airports which are currently functional in the country. The projected investment will help meet the growth of passenger traffic that we expect. He welcomed the government's initiative of privatisation of airports as it helps reduce the costs of Airports Authority of India and able to get revenues from the airports without employing manpower. This revenue helps AAI to build infrastructure in unserved areas where private sector is not willing to invest at present. Large parts of country which are unserved and underserved in terms of air connectivity and there the private sector does not want to go initially so, and to invest in those areas we need resources which is being generated through privatisation programme.
