AI-based Kashmiri adaptation of “Dr Faustus” enthralls packed audience at Srinagar’s Tagore hall

Srinagar (J&K), October 28, 2025 (ANI): The artificial intelligence (AI) based theatre play Dr Faustus enthralls jam pack audience in Tagore hall Srinagar. This innovative play was originally written by Christopher Marlowe titled “Doctor Faustus” and was adapted into Kashmiri by eminent scholar & poet Prof. G.N. Firaq. The stage adaptation and dramatization was done by well-known theatre personality Dr. Sohan Lal Koul, while the play was directed by Altaf Hussain who was also performing in the play. Students from different schools and colleges and University also attended this event and they were enjoying it a lot as they got the opportunity to know about theatre plays with modern concepts. The performance was organized by the Young Dramatists Society Group, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The play enthralls the jam pack audience with its powerful performances, innovative staging, and the timeless moral conflict at the heart of Marlowe’s masterpiece, brought alive in the rich and expressive Kashmiri language. This event not only showcased the strength of Kashmiri theatre but also reflected the commitment of young dramatists to preserve and promote cultural heritage through classical works presented in the local idiom. Present time youth is not fully aware about the old aged rich cultural and traditional activities and theater is one of them. So such types of adopted theatre plays with modern concepts will play a tremendous role to attract youths towards theatre and overall cultural activities which is very important to keep theatre alive for future generations.
