Artisan keeps centuries-old ‘Pulhoor’ alive in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 03 (ANI): Muhammad Yousuf Bhat is keeping the centuries-old ‘Pulhoor’ (traditional slippers) alive in the valley with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Handicraft. He is a resident of Zantrag village in Khrew Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir. He uses straws to make footwear and several other items like mats, cover for cups, and baskets as well. He learned this art from his forefather and thanked the department for making efforts to keep this traditional culture alive. Pulhoor was used by the people of Kashmir in ancient times, especially during the harsh winters. It is one of the traditional tools used for dealing with the winter.
