Centre should strengthen locust warning system: CM Gehlot

Jaipur (Rajasthan) May 23 (ANI): A meeting was recently organised by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot with collectors of the border districts, locust warning organization and agriculture department officials to discuss the worrisome situation of locust attack in the state.During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that seeing the continuous attack of locusts after almost three decades, it has become necessary to strengthen the locust warning organisation in the state. He said that due to the outbreak of locusts, the farmers had also suffered a big loss last year. Locust invasion is expected to be more intense this year than earlier. In such a situation, we will have to face this challenge with complete efficiency.CM said that since the locust warning organisation works under the centre, central government should strengthen it and provide necessary resources.The Chief Minister also said that this time the attack of locust has come in different form. Some swarms of locusts have moved from the border districts to Ajmer, Jaipur, Karauli, Tonk, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur and other districts. We have to adopt different method to control them. Last year when the locust attack took place, the locust warning organisation as well as the agriculture department and our farmers did a good job. This time also we have to make efforts with full awareness.
