COVID-19 adversely hits jute industry, association appeals govt for reopening mills

North Parganas (WB), Kolkata (WB), Apr 11 (ANI): Jute industry is worst affected by nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus. All the mills across the country are closed. About 95% of jute manufacturing took place in West Bengal, which is severely impaired these days. Major part of jute production goes into crop and grain packaging. Chairman of Indian Jute Mills Association, Raghavendra Gupta said, “We have written letter to state government regarding the issues, however there is no order of reopening of jute mills yet.” Meanwhile, shortage of labours has also a major point of concern amid the lockdown situation.
