Fintech Sakhi: Making Banking Accessible in Gujarat’s Villages

Oct 12, 2026

In Gujarat’s Chhota Udepur district, the Fintech Sakhi initiative is making banking services accessible to rural communities. Sushmaben Shantilal Rathwa, a Bank Sakhi from Morkhala village, received training through a Sakhi Mandal under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). Two years ago, she established a Banking Correspondent (BC) Point at her home, providing services such as cash deposits, withdrawals and KYC. Earlier, villagers had to travel to distant bank branches to complete financial transactions. Now, residents of Morkhala and nearby villages can access essential banking services locally, saving time and travel expenses. The initiative demonstrates how digital literacy and skill development can create livelihood opportunities for tribal women while strengthening financial inclusion and promoting self-reliance in rural communities.
