May 01, 2026

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has launched a unique initiative, turning dung from stray cattle into biogas - making it the first civic body in Gujarat to do so. At the Bakrol Karuna Mandir gaushala, around 1000 kilograms of dung is processed daily. The project not only ensures shelter, food and medical care for stray animals but also helps the civic body save nearly 8 to 9 lakh rupees every month. The biogas generated is used for electricity and community kitchens, while the leftover slurry is turned into organic fertilizer and distributed free of cost.Daily 1000 kilograms of cattle dung are put into the biogas plant and 32-kilogram biogas is generated, and also 32 units of electricity is generated here. This initiative highlights how urban waste can be transformed into valuable resources, setting an example for sustainable city management.
