Ganga’s tributary Tamsa emerges as a symbol of cleanliness
Dec 30, 2025
The Tamsa River, an ancient tributary of the Ganga, is emerging as a model of cleanliness and community-led rejuvenation in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district. Under the Namami Gange programme, coordinated efforts by district authorities, gram panchayats, volunteers, and residents have transformed the river through shramdaan, waste removal, desilting, and awareness drives. Officials say sustained public participation has improved water quality, biodiversity, and livelihoods, reinforcing the vision of a clean, healthy, and sustainable river ecosystem.
