UP Govt imposes weekend lockdown in Meerut, Kanpur

Meerut/Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 01 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh Govt imposed weekend lockdown in Kanpur and Meerut. The step was taken to avoid overcrowding, which is more likely on weekends. The weekend lockdown is seen as a preventive measure from the third wave of COVID-19. Even though the lockdown is in place, some people can be seen on the streets in Kanpur. After the second wave of COVID-19, the state government is now trying to minimize the damage if the third wave hits. Currently, there are 712 active cases in UP.
