Gujarat: Authorities conduct crop damage survey following unseasonal rains
Nov 04, 2025
Unseasonal rains have caused widespread damage to standing crops across several districts of Gujarat and the state government has launched a rapid assessment to ensure timely assistance to affected farmers. Heavy and unseasonal rainfall over the past week has left farmers in distress across districts like Surat, Tapi, Kheda, Gir Somnath and Junagadh. Paddy, groundnut, cotton, and tur crops have suffered extensive losses. “Devesh Bhai Patel, an agriculture extension officer, said “if I talk about Olpad area, in Kharif season, there is 25,700 hectares that is under cultivation. Mostly rice is grown here. Damage has been found in 10,800 hectares’ area. And the further survey is underway.” The administration in Kheda has deployed over 130 survey teams to assess the extent of damage as reports suggest more than 80,000 hectares have been affected alone. Officials say the correct data will help ensure prompt relief and recovery measures. On Monday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also visited Gir Somnath and Junagadh districts to assess the situation and assured a relief package to help farmers recover from their losses. He has also instructed ministers to inspect damaged fields and assure all possible help. In Tapi, state minister for agriculture, Jitubhai Vaghani, met farmers and conveyed that the Chief Minister has assured financial assistance will reach each affected farmer.
