Gujarat: Vadodara’s MSU Develops Low-Cost Copper-Based Diabetes Test

In Gujarat’s Vadodara, research scholars at Maharaja Sayajirao University have developed an innovative and low-cost method to test diabetes. With diabetes emerging as one of the fastest-growing lifestyle diseases, this breakthrough could make testing easier and more affordable for millions. Using nanotechnology, the researchers have transformed waste copper into a special nano-enzyme capable of detecting glucose, successfully proving the method in laboratory trials. Conventional diabetes tests depend on natural enzymes that are costly, fragile, and mostly imported. The copper-based nanoenzyme developed at MSU, however, is more stable, locally produced, and significantly cheaper. By promoting affordable healthcare, sustainability, and self-reliance, such research initiatives are strengthening the health sector and reinforcing Gujarat’s innovation-friendly approach, paving the way for a more inclusive and research-driven India.
