Indian carriers comprise 43.5 pc of international air traffic, more than pre-Covid times: DGCA

New Delhi, March 08 (ANI): Indian carriers continue to increase their market share in the international aviation sector. African countries and Middle East region account for more than half of India's total inbound as well as outbound passengers. The DGCA released the cumulative market share of Indian carriers by passengers carried on international flights. As per DGCA, the cumulative market share was 43.5 pc in Oct-Dec 2022, up from 39.2 pc in the corresponding period of 2019. In the year 2020, the market shares of Indian carriers rose to 65.3 pc. However, in 2021, the share of Indian carriers in the total international passenger traffic stands at 49.6 pc . It was found that the maximum number (32.4 pc) of passengers are carried to and from the United Arab Emirates. The report further reads that out of the 30 Indian cities, 5 cities accounted for most of the international passenger traffic (approx. 70.2 pc). Delhi tops the position in this category with a share of 28.3 pc followed by Mumbai’s with 19.8 pc and Chennai with 8.5 pc share. Interestingly, Vistara has significantly grown in terms of carrying more passengers. Out of the 43.4 million passengers, 20.9 million passengers were carried by scheduled Indian carriers during Jan-Dec 2022.
