International SOS in India keeping close eye on coronavirus: Medical Director

Mumbai, Jan 24 (ANI): In December, public health officials from China informed the World Health Organization (WHO) that they had a problem. An unknown new virus was causing pneumonia-like illness in the city of Wuhan. They quickly determined that it was Coronavirus which was rapidly spreading through and outside of Wuhan. The majority of the illnesses are in Wuhan, but cases have been reported in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Macau, Hong Kong, and the US. While speaking to ANI in Mumbai, the Medical Director at International SOS in India Dr Rahul Kalia spoke about coronavirus. He said, "The coronavirus 2019 started to show up in Wuhan in China in December. We got complaint of pneumonia patients, respiratory problems and it spreads quite fast. Currently, 550 patients had been confirmed with this particular virus and there have been over 17 deaths till now." "Cases have also been reported in other Asian countries like Hong Kong, Philippines and Japan etc. At International SOS we have dedicated medical team and they are keeping close eye on development," he added. "We have information and experience in this domain and the previous H1N1 Pandemic really helped our members to keep an update on this development and even now the active monitoring is taking place," Dr Rahul Kalia further stated.
