Kashmir: Kangri sales surge as cold grips valley

Dec 27, 2021

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 27 (ANI): As the intense cold grips north India, people in Jammu and Kashmir are keeping themselves warm with Kangris. Kangri is an earthenware encased within wicker basket. It is like a portable heater that Kashmiris keep in their warm woolen cloak to keep themselves warm in the frosty winters. Kangri plays a very important role as this is easy to carry. With fire inside, it keeps people warm. It can be carried anywhere. The traditional Kangri is easy to prepare and unlike electrical heating devices, can be carried along if you happen to take a stroll. The sale of Kangri is increased during winters as many people from rural areas are making these and selling them in the markets. These Kangris are sold everywhere in the market and many people are earning their livelihood from this business.
