May 29, 2023

Anantnag (J&K), May 29 (ANI): Kashmir is home to numerous springs and fresh-water bodies. One such spring, which is the largest in South Kashmir, is Panzath Nag in Qazigund town of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. The spring is also called Naagbal by the locals and gives the Panzath village its name. It is special for the people of the village who show their respect to it in a unique way. They take a day off and participate in cleaning of the spring. A fishing festival is also organised which has been going on for ages. Every year, villagers celebrate this annual mini-festival. They go for open fishing in the spring for one full day every year. People take a wicker basket to collect the fish. This annual festival gives the locals a reason to celebrate. It also helps in de-weeding the spring and maintains the flow of water for rest of the year.
