Locals wear mask during exercise, AQI under ‘severe’ category in NCR

Ghaziabad/ Noida (Uttar Pradesh)/ Ambala (Haryana), Nov 02 (ANI): The air quality of National Capital Region (NCR) took a hit due to a combination of stubble burning, firecracker emissions and unfavourable meteorological conditions in past few weeks. A thick layer of smog continued to cover the sky in the NCR region on November 02. Several locals were seen doing exercises wearing masks in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on November 02. People were doing exercise in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad. A public health emergency has been declared in the Delhi-NCR region due to rising pollution. Residents of Ambala have complained of a spike in respiratory problems, allergies and other health issues. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Noida is at 451 which reflect the ‘severe' category, while on the other side the AQI in Indirapuram is at 449, in 'severe' category'. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency due to rising air pollution levels. Higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern.
