Namo Van: Million Trees Transform Gujarat’s Morbi into Green Oasis

May 25, 2026

On the banks of the Machhu Dam in Gujarat’s Morbi, barren land has been transformed into ‘Namo Van’ — Gujarat’s largest Miyawaki forest at a single location. Led by Gujarat Minister and Morbi MLA Kantilal Amrutiya, the project utilised nearly 1200 bigha land of the Morbi Panjrapol Trust to plant over one million saplings in just 37 days. Using organic manure, fertile soil and drip irrigation, the plantation rapidly developed into dense green cover within a year. Impressed by the initiative, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated ‘Namo Van’ during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations. The project now stands as a model of environmental conservation, public participation and sustainable development.
