Residents Raise Concerns Over Resource Mismanagement in PoGB

07 August 2026, PoGB: - Residents in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan say that while the region's abundant natural resources continue to be utilised, local communities remain excluded from decisions concerning their use. They say control over these resources rests outside the region, leaving local representatives with little authority to address public concerns or invest resource revenues in improving infrastructure, public services and livelihoods. Along side concerns over resource control, residents say everyday challenges continue to mount. Frequent electricity shortages, inadequate water supply, delayed development projects and weak public services continue to affect daily life across the region. They say that despite repeated assurances, many basic civic issues remain unresolved, making life increasingly difficult for ordinary people. For many residents, the issue extends far beyond electricity, water or development. They believe Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan cannot achieve meaningful progress unless local communities are entrusted with greater decision-making powers and control over their own resources. Until governance becomes more accountable and public welfare takes priority, residents say the region will continue to remain rich in resources but deprived of development and opportunities.
