Stéphane Dujarric highlights intense diplomacy behind the scenes at the 81st UN General Assembly

New York (USA), September 26, 2026 (ANI): Speaking about the 81st UN General Assembly session, UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said diplomacy requires patience and time, noting that the Secretary-General held more than 100 bilateral meetings on issues including Yemen, the Gulf, Ukraine, Gaza and the global economy. On UN Security Council reform, Dujarric stressed the growing need to make the Council more representative, credible and legitimate by reflecting today’s realities rather than those of 1945. He also highlighted extensive discussions on artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for global safeguards and inclusive dialogue involving all member states, governments and the private sector.
