Threads of Strength: Tribal women weave new future in Gujarat’s Chhotaudepur
Nov 14, 2025
Gujarat’s Chhotaudepur is witnessing steady transformation through the Bhekhdiya Group Mahila Vikas Gruh Udyog Sahkari Mandali, founded in 2004. Supported by the Gujarat Government’s focus on tribal welfare and PM Modi’s vision of women-led development, the cooperative has trained over 100 tribal women in Khadi weaving using the Ambar Charkha, collectively earning nearly ₹3 crores since 2007. Women like Surmaben Vijaybhai Rathwa, who supports her family through weaving, and Bhuriben Vicchatbhai Rathwa, who rebuilt her life after personal loss, embody resilience and empowerment. Regular meetings, collective decision-making, and unity have strengthened the cooperative, turning it into a model of community-led progress. Through each thread they weave, these women are shaping stronger families and brighter rural futures.
