VOC Port Tuticorin pioneers green initiatives during India Maritime Week 2025

Mumbai (India) The V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port), Tuticorin, is emerging as India’s southern hub for green shipping - driving renewable energy, efficiency, and green hydrogen. At the Green Maritime Day event during the ongoing India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, the VOC Port authority led as the nodal organisation. During the event, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reaffirmed India’s goal to rank among top maritime nations by 2047, while a delegation from Norway also attended. On the occasion, Acme Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. also signed an MoU with VOC Port for a ₹15,000 crore, 1,200 MTPD Green Ammonia Project. VOC Port Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit highlighted the port’s strategic location and wind potential position it to lead India’s green maritime shift, announcing its designation as a Green Hydrogen Hub. The sessions highlighted “Green Shipping Corridors,” “Green Fuel Bunkering,” and “Zero-Emission Transport.” With these initiatives, VOC Port is setting new benchmarks in sustainable maritime growth.
