Women entrepreneurs get training in lavender cultivation in J&K’s Pulwama

Pulwama(J&K), Mar 25 (ANI): Lavender cultivation proving to be a game changer in boosting income of women entrepreneurs, keeping its high market value and demand in view. The workshop cum training program was organized by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) aimed to help them in the cultivation, processing, post harvest management and marketing of aromatic crops like lavender, rose, clary sage, rosemary and other industrial crops known for their economic value in flavour and fragrance. The government had been taking such initiatives for last few years in Kashmir as valley has a huge potential of medicinal as well as aromatic plants. “We are getting training how to cultivate lavender, how we will earn income through cultivation and how unemployment will be minimised through it,” Parveena Akhter an entrepreneur said. Speaking to ANI, in-charge of training program Dr Shahid Rasool said, “We give opportunities to unemployed youths that help them in the cultivation, processing, post harvest management and marketing of aromatic crops and get good income. Because any product including perfumes, oils, medicines made by lavender have very good national and international market value and people are using these products at large scale and we will continue organizing such workshops.”
