Assam Rifles destroy cannabis plantations worth Rs 1.5 crore in Tripura

Tripura (Agartala) [India], December 14 : Continuing its war against drugs and illegal cannabis plantations, Assam Rifles destroyed 25,000 to 30,000 illegal Cannabis plantations worth Rs 1.5 crore at General Area Kalam Chowra in Sephaijala area of Tripura district.

Based on the specific information provided by Assam Rifles sources the illegal plantation of Cannabis in Gen Area Kalam Chowra, Sephaijala, District Tripura.
Joint ops were launched alongwith representatives of the local police station.

On reaching the spot, the team identified the plantation area and deployed its picquet to cover the approaches. Thereafter the team started destroying the illegal cannabis plantation along with the police representatives and forest officials.
Approximately 10 acres of forest land were used for cannabis plantation and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 cannabis plants were destroyed by burning of the approximate market worth 1.5 crores by the forest department on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Assam Rifles and police commandos of Thoubal in a joint operation recovered arms, ammunition and war-like stores from Salam Patong and Moidangpok on Saturday, a statement issued by Assam Rifles said.
Acting on a tip-off, security forces established a cordon around the village and started an extensive search which resulted in the recovery of two weapons, twelve hand grenades including stun and tear grenades, three 40 mm shells, two radio sets and two arming rings.
