Defence secretary urges DPSUs to foster self-reliance during visit to MDL Mumbai

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 26 - As part of the ongoing 'Swachhta Hi Seva' celebrations, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane visited Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai on September 25.
During his visit, he inaugurated a security complex at MDL and engaged in an interactive session with executives, addressing various concerns, read the Ministry of Defence press release.
In his address, the Defence Secretary not only emphasized the significance of cleanliness in nation-building but also extended the concept to encompass freedom from all forms of corruption—moral, financial, and intellectual.
Giridhar Aramane said, “Increasing the indigenous content in warship building will ultimately contribute to the progress of the country”.
The 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign, which translates to 'Service Through Cleanliness,' is not limited to physical cleanliness but also underscores the need for ethical and intellectual integrity in all aspects of governance.
Furthermore, Giridhar Aramane stressed the critical need for India to become self-reliant in defence production. He called upon all Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) to actively contribute to this national goal, read the press release.
Specifically, he underscored the importance of increasing indigenous content in warship building as a crucial step towards achieving self-reliance and advancing the country's progress.
The Defence Secretary also shed light on the role played by Human Resources (HR) in the success of organizations.
He highlighted the importance of contemporary HR policies and the need to motivate employees beyond mere satisfaction.

In a special moment, Giridhar Aramane unveiled Customized Corporate MDL stamps, issued by the Indian Postal Services, to commemorate MDL's 250-year journey since its inception in 1774.
This event not only acknowledges MDL's rich history but also its continued commitment to India's defense needs.
Moreover, the Defence Secretary released a booklet on various aspects of Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informers (PIDPI), prepared by the Vigilance Department of MDL, read the release.
