G20 nearing, LG chairs high-level meet on preparedness

New Delhi [India], August 25 : Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing work and preparedness for the upcoming G20 Summit that will be held in the national capital from September 9 to 10.
The LG said the work has to be carried out on a war footing to ensure that no gaps are left in civil, electrical, horticulture, medical and security preparedness as the next seven days were crucial to complete all the envisaged projects.
According to a press statement from the governor's office, the LG made it clear that the G-20 Summit had presented the city with an opportunity to create permanent assets for people and the final shape should be given to each aspect of the projects, be it the installation of statues, sculptures, artifacts fountains, lighting, flower pots etc. expeditiously so that everything should be fully tested, functional and operational.
Saxena enquired about the power supply for the venue and asked the Power Department to make it glitch-free. He directed that mock drills should be carried out to meet any eventuality. Further, he said there should be seamless coordination between the Power Department and officials of ITPO.
As per the statement, for any medical exigencies, the LG was informed that all government hospitals have been fully prepared and equipped.
“There are altogether 80 teams of doctors and trained medical personnel with three teams in each hospital. 70 advanced and 60 well-equipped ambulances will be put in service during the event. Private hospitals have also been directed to keep themselves prepared and ready. Verification of all teams has been done and medical kits are ready. Ambulances would also be stationed at the Summit venue and all designated hotels where dignitaries would be staying. All medical personnel have been instructed to be in proper uniform,” the statement said.
The Fire Department informed the LG about the preparedness and was directed that fire tenders should be parked in the designated hotels.
The LG directed that an audit of fire safety at hotels be carried out on a priority basis.
“Altogether 66 fire tenders have been kept ready. 5 fire tenders would be stationed at the ITPO and there would be some standby fire tenders also. 23 Vehicles have been earmarked for various hotels and fire officials would be deputed zone-wise,” the release added.
The security aspect was also discussed and the LG was assured that full-proof security was in place to meet any kind of threat – terror, nuclear, biological, chemical, general law and order situation, as per the release.
The LG was informed that police have swung into action to book those involved in defacing of the public property and cases have been registered against the violators. Steps are also being taken to ensure that stray cattle and street dogs are suitably handled and police along with civic bodies are carrying out the task.
The next review meeting is scheduled for August 31.
