Haryana CM assures resolution of issues concerning rice millers

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], August 6 : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday announced that rice millers would be given the bonus up to June 30, 2025, while assuring that all issues concerning the rice milling sector would be resolved on a priority basis. The Rice Millers Association expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister for the decision.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting with representatives of the Rice Millers Association at Haryana Niwas to review issues relating to Custom Milled Rice (CMR) delivery, storage and other operational matters.
During the meeting, representatives of the Rice Millers Association informed the Chief Minister that the Centre had declined to accept delivery of additional quantities of rice. They requested the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the Central Government to resolve the issue, accroding to a release.
Responding to the issue, the Chief Minister said that the Government of India had fixed a target of procuring 55 lakh metric tonnes of rice from Haryana during the current procurement season. However, paddy production in the State had exceeded expectations this year, which was a welcome development. He said that he had already written to the Central Government in this regard and that a meeting with the Government of India was also scheduled for the following day.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government stands firmly with the rice millers and is committed to resolving every issue faced by them.
Representatives of the Rice Millers Association said that the State Government had already released the bonus for the 2024-25 procurement season for rice delivered up to March 15, 2025, and requested that the benefit be extended up to June 30, 2025.
Accepting the request, the Chief Minister said that although the bonus provision had originally been made for rice millers who delivered rice within the prescribed deadline, the State Government had decided to extend the benefit up to June 30, 2025, considering the challenges faced by rice millers. The Rice Millers Association expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister for the decision.
The Association also brought to the Chief Minister's notice the shortage of storage space for rice and requested that warehousing capacity be enhanced. In response, the Chief Minister said that directions had already been issued to various agencies across the State to augment storage capacity. He added that the process of establishing large warehouses and modern silos had already begun and that the shortage of storage space in the State would be resolved permanently in the near future.
The Chief Minister also assured the rice millers that all their remaining issues would be addressed and issued necessary directions to ensure the timely delivery of Custom Milled Rice.
