Manipur police appeals people to return looted weapons, says situation tense but under control

Imphal (Manipur) [India], October 14 : Manipur police on Saturday appealed to the public to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police immediately while adding that the situation in the state is under control.
A press release by Manipur police said that in the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of congregation of protestors.
Police also urged the citizens to not believe in rumours and to stay away from false videos circulating on social media sites.
"Appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room. Further, the appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately," the release mentioned.
As per the release, search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts.
During the operations, two arms (SLR-02) were recovered in the Imphal-East district, three arms (.303 Rifles-03) and two explosives (Local Pipe Bombs-02) were recovered in the Kakching district, the release stated.
"Movement 362 vehicles along NH-37 and 235 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured," the release added.
It further mentioned that strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
According to the police, a total of 133 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and the police have detained 2047 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
